Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, also known as herpes zoster.  Stress or a weakened immune system can cause the virus to reactivate.  Symptoms may include headache, skin rash with itching and pain, vision changes, and foggy thinking.  Pain is usually the first symptom, followed by the  skin rash that turns into fluid filled blisters.
